# Clone script, AI prompt or SaaS: what should you actually use?

Canonical page: [Clone script, AI prompt or SaaS: what should you actually use?](<https://clone4.me/guides/clone-script-vs-ai-prompt/>)

Searching for an Airbnb clone script or a Cambly clone can lead to very different products. Some vendors sell source code, some run a hosted service, and Clone4.me supplies specifications for an AI coding agent. Know which deliverable you need before comparing features or prices.

## A practical starting point

A clone script gives you an existing implementation to inspect and operate. A prompt gives you a specification to implement. SaaS gives you a maintained service under its terms. None automatically grants rights to another company’s brand, data, assets or private systems.

## Compare the deliverable first

A build prompt is useful when you want an original product with a particular scope and can iterate on implementation. It is not a downloadable finished app. A source-code package may accelerate setup, but only if the code and its dependencies fit your environment. A hosted service moves much of the operational work to its provider.

Clone4.me’s briefs are free to copy, customize and download as Markdown. You still need an agent or development process, tests and a place to run the result. Do not compare the price of a prompt with a production service as though they include the same work.

| Option | You receive | You still need to verify |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AI build prompt | An editable product specification | Generated code, behavior, security and deployment |
| Clone script | An existing code package under a license | License, code quality, setup and updates |
| Maintained SaaS | Access to an operated service | Feature fit, terms, data handling and export |

## Ask a clone-script vendor concrete questions

Request the actual license and a clear explanation of source access, modification rights, commercial use, redistribution and update coverage. Inspect dependency versions and the deployment instructions. A demo account does not establish that you receive the complete backend or source needed to operate it.

Ask for a demonstration of the hard workflow: simultaneous reservations for rentals, cancellation and credit reconciliation for tutoring, or retry behavior for payments. Confirm how secrets, backups, logs and operator access are configured. Treat unsupported assurances as questions to resolve before purchase.

- Does the delivered project run from its documented setup?
- Which parts are third-party services with separate accounts or costs?
- How are security updates, provider changes and migrations handled?
- Can you export data and leave the vendor without losing the application?

## Budget by workload, not a universal clone price

Separate implementation from ongoing operation. A local notes app differs from a video marketplace in storage, bandwidth, provider usage, moderation and support. AI coding usage also depends on iteration and tool choice. There is no reliable single price or completion time for “a clone.”

Write down expected users, media volume, availability needs and the cost of someone fixing failures. Recheck provider pricing when you select the architecture. If immediate reliability is essential and customization is minor, an established service can be the better economic choice.

## Choose one workflow and verify it

For an AI build, use the complete tool brief and customize its audience, exclusions and acceptance checks. For a purchased implementation, run the same acceptance checks against the real package. This makes the comparison concrete without assuming that a familiar interface proves working behavior.

The Airbnb and Cambly guides provide specific reservation and video-access checks. Shopify and Uber represent different commerce workflows. Pick the closest product model rather than merging unrelated feature lists into one oversized specification.
